01 The story
Complete Languages Tuition and Services was established in 2018 by Andrew (Andy) Picot BA Hons, PGCE, TESOL Cert, CIOL Affiliate, its founding and current Principal. Born and raised in Jersey, he brings 18 years of experience in education and administration across the private and public sectors, locally and abroad, in both front and back office. He has an international outlook and is very well travelled.
Bespoke packages and personally tailored lessons for individuals and for corporates, using whatever resources and techniques suit the learner in front of him. Whether you are learning from scratch or brushing up for academic or recreational reasons, Andy is here to guide you on your epic journey.
Grammar, vocabulary and topics through role play, covering speaking with phonics and phonetics, listening, reading and writing including translation, so you can survive and then thrive in real communicative situations, whether that is finishing school, travelling, buying a second property abroad or working in another language. Progress is steep during sessions and between them, with suggested homework that reinforces what you have covered and prepares the next hour. All printed, interactive, online and electronic resources are provided free of charge.
A solid 2:1 BA Honours in French and Spanish with first class modules, Jersey's PGCE passed with flying colours, and a solid 2:1 in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. His third university year was spent in Spain, achieving a distinction in the advanced Spanish Diploma and an overall first.
Six years at Victoria College and Victoria College Prep, and at Les Quennevais School including Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Also St Brelade's College (TEFL), Costa Rica (TESOL), China (TEFL) and Normandy as a Teaching Assistant. Progress is consistently steep and results are excellent, reaching outstanding at national level on record book grades.
Up to date with Jersey and UK curricula and MFL GCSE and IGCSE syllabi, AQA and Edexcel mainly, plus Common Entrance. Andy is a national Examiner and Moderator, and prepares students for the Common European Framework exams, DELF, DALF and DELE.
Child Protection and Safeguarding trained, First Aid trained, Enhanced DBS checked, GDPR compliant and fully insured.
Opening hours are generally weekday daytimes and evenings, except Friday evening, and Saturday daytime during term time as well as through the school holidays.
02 The tuition
Every lesson is an hour, in person, 1:1 or 2:1, for Years 5 to 11 and for adults. This is what that hour can be spent on.
For Years 10 and 11. Lessons planned around the topics of the syllabus and the exam board you name, with the written, listening, speaking and reading papers each given real practice.
The same careful exam preparation in Spanish: topical vocabulary, grammar, translation and exam style questions, at increasing pace and depth as the exam approaches.
Phonics, first vocabulary and the confidence to speak out loud. The years before the exam years are where a language either takes root or turns into a chore. This is the taking root part. Year 9 matters most of all, because it is the year options are chosen and the year GCSE content quietly begins.
For travel, for family across the water, for a property in France, or simply for the pleasure of it. Real life scenarios and role play, not textbook drills.
From ordering confidently on holiday to conversing properly with neighbours and colleagues. Lessons build past small talk into language you can actually live with.
1:1 gives one learner the whole hour. 2:1 shares it between two at a similar level, which suits siblings and friends and shares the cost. Longer blocks of lessons come with 10% off. The taster will tell you which fits.
03 Who it's for
A parent weighing up an exam year and an adult who wants to be understood abroad are not looking for the same thing. So they don't get the same page.
For parents · Years 5 to 11
You want to know your child is with someone you can trust, that lessons match what school is teaching, and that the speaking exam will not arrive as a surprise. That is exactly how the hour is built.
For adults · every level
A partner's family you want to be understood by. Holidays where you stop pointing at menus. A property abroad, a role at work, or the simple wish that you had studied harder the first time. All of these are why adults come.
04 A small taste
Tap or drag a card to turn it over. One small win a lesson. It adds up faster than you would think.
05 The September window
No countdown clocks here, just how the calendar honestly works. Weekly after school times are agreed in the order enquiries arrive, and most parents arrange their autumn term tutor during the summer holidays. If a regular slot for September matters to you, the free taster is the way to start that conversation now.
Start with the free tasterAnd the windows after that
The second window. Places freed up at Christmas go in the first fortnight, and mock exams fall in January and February, which is when most families realise how much ground there is to cover.
Mock speaking exams. The paper that unsettles learners most, and the one that improves fastest with an hour a week of talking to a person rather than a screen.
End of year assessments. For the years below GCSE this is the marker that shows whether the foundations have actually held.
06 Why CLTSJ
Not an app, not a screen name. An hour in the room with a teacher who lives here and knows the island's schools and rhythms.
The whole hour to one learner, or shared between two at a similar level. You choose what suits your child, your budget, your friendship.
A consultation, an assessment and a taster before a penny changes hands. You decide with evidence, not promises.
GCSE French and Spanish are the specialism, with the years before treated as the foundation they are, not an afterthought.
One free hour is all it takes to find the level, name the goal and set the plan. The rest is steady weekly work, and it starts whenever you do.

Andrew is a great teacher, and has boosted our son's confidence in preparing for his French GCSE. Lessons are aligned to the topics of study on the GCSE syllabus and are delivered in an interactive manner, balancing the written, listening and speaking elements of the paper. Homework assignments are thoroughly reviewed and resourced, and exam style questions are frequently practiced. Highly recommended.
Andy helped my daughter immensely prior to her Spanish GCSE. He is very thorough and improved her vocabulary knowledge and confidence with her Spanish speaking and she was very happy to have attained the highest grade at Foundation level. I would highly recommend Andy.
Andrew has been a fabulous teacher for my husband and I preparing to attend our son's wedding in France. We are at different levels and Andrew has been able to differentiate to best support our learning with practicing all main tenses, developing vocabulary and relevant role play to help us build our confidence in understanding and conversing in French. We have greatly enjoyed our sessions and would recommend Andrew as a teacher for adults learning a language.
I had the pleasure of being taught by Andy in year 9&10, and his support made a real difference in my progress. He explained concepts clearly, adapted lessons to my needs, and created a comfortable environment to practise speaking with confidence. Thanks to his guidance, in year11 (after moving away from jersey) I achieved the best iGCSe grade in Poland (Pearson outstanding learner award).
Andy tutored my Year 11 son in the run up to Spanish GCSE. Andy had a really thorough knowledge of the GCSE syllabus and was a great tutor, going the extra mile to make recordings to help my son with his speaking exam outside of lesson time and providing really useful revision material and guidance. I would definitely recommend him and his help was much appreciated.
Andy taught my son at Victoria College,he passed GCSE Spanish with A* and felt confident doing the IB Spanish at Hautlieu.Andy also coached him and he won prizes at The Eisteddfod for French poetry.Thank you Andy !

Taught me French and Spanish at Victoria college. He is one of the best language teachers I've had, always pushed me when I needed it, and lessons were enjoyable too.
Andrew is passionate and ambitious with a broad range of interests. His enthusiasm is infectious and he is quick to encourage and support others.
Great teacher
09 Questions parents and adults actually ask
Children from Year 5 through to Year 11, including full GCSE preparation in French and Spanish. Adults are welcome at every level, from complete beginner upwards. Tell us the exam board in the form below and lessons are planned around its topics and papers.
1:1 gives one learner the whole hour, which suits exam years and fast progress. 2:1 shares the hour between two learners at a similar level, which works well for siblings or friends and shares the cost. If you are unsure, say so at the taster and Andy will advise honestly.
Face to face in Jersey. Andy is based in Trinity, and the practical arrangements, including where you meet, are agreed at the free taster so they suit both sides.
A relaxed first session, free, with no obligation. Andy meets the learner, gauges the current level, listens to what you want to achieve and proposes a plan, including whether 1:1 or 2:1 fits better. You then decide in your own time.
Completely. Many adult learners start from zero for travel, family, property abroad or work. Lessons are shaped to your preferred learning style, whether that is interactive, audio visual, musical or written, and they move at your pace. Andy also teaches English to adult learners.
That depends on where you start and how often you practise between lessons. What you can rely on is a steady weekly hour, small tasks in between, and a plan that is reviewed with you as you go, so you always know where things stand.
The first session is free. That is the consultation, the assessment and a taster, before anything is agreed.
After that there is a standard hourly rate for 1:1 and for 2:1 lessons on a short term basis. For longer term clients who attend weekly lessons consistently over many months, that rate is reduced by 10 per cent.
Please enquire for further details and Andy will talk you through it honestly at the taster.
An electronic invoice is sent one week in advance of the next lesson, to be settled by BACS or Revolut by the start of that lesson. Alternatively an invoice can be sent ahead of a block of your very next four lessons, a monthly block. That second method is the most popular and seems the most practical and convenient.
Unless you fall very ill on the day of your next paid lesson, 24 hours' notice is required. Unless Complete Languages is fully booked with other clients and you do not recover quickly, your missed lesson is rescheduled for later the same week at a mutually convenient time slot, and exceptionally that includes Sundays. Complete Languages will endeavour to find a one off replacement client for your missed slot and still fit you back in.
If the tutor is ill, the same applies in reverse. Andy will endeavour to reschedule your missed lesson for later in the same week at a time that suits you, and that can include Sundays.
One off holidays should be advised as soon as they are booked, so the slot can be planned around rather than lost.
If you have purchased an external discount deal voucher through QuidsIn or Jersey Rewards, or a four week block of lessons direct through Complete Languages, then it must be honoured. QuidsIn or Jersey Rewards may refund a portion or all of your purchase with them, but Complete Languages certainly cannot do so. Otherwise, if you suffer unforeseen serious illness or hospitalisation, or another extenuating circumstance, you are fully entitled to a part or full refund with immediate effect.
